What we get up to

"We want people are encouraged to have balanced lives with time for others rather than being sucked into an endless round of church activities. We’re about getting into the communities we inhabit and bringing Jesus’ love to them."

So what goes on? In short lots and lots! We have a strong emphasis in getting stuck in into various projects running in the local community so first and foremost we are involved (both paid and unpaid) in charities working with asylum seekers, with young offenders, mentoring, community education projects, and various local sports clubs. We also run two large community parties in the year, a summer barbecue and a Christmas party. Our Sunday pattern is as follows:

First Sunday: Is our monthly celebration which takes place at 4:30pm in St John’s Church Hall. As a busy community we try and make this the priority to attend. We try and make it child friendly and usually involves communion and creative worship of different kinds.

Second Sunday: We meet again at 4:30pm but at Fran’s, No 43 Montpellier Road, this is generally has a bible study focus as the moment we are looking at what it means to be ‘Living the Jesus Way’.

Third Sunday: We again meet at Fran’s, No 43 but a little earlier usually about 1:30pm have lunch together, communion, and pray for each other. On occasion we will spend a little longer together and have what we call ‘stakeholder’ days, which are occasions where we reflect and pray for the church and feedback peoples thoughts as to what is going on.

Last Sunday of the month (whether fourth or fifth): We don’t meet, we find people want to be able to go away for weekends, see family and this gives them the space to do that; a church Sabbath if you like!

Where there’s an extra Sunday in the month we do various things and are open to lots of ideas/offers to co-ordinate. Picnics, trips to the sea side, brunch & newspapers with neighbours, anything really!

During the week we have Journey Groups. These are a place for building closer relationships and supporting/helping equip each other to live as Christians. They meet either weekly or fortnightly.

Occasional mid-week Learning Hubs tackle tough questions or explore issues around being Christians 24-7 including subjects like Christians in the workplace, Christians & politics, and genocide in the Old Testament! There are lots of other things that go on through out the year including weekends away, prayer parties, and much, much more.

Welcome Building Community Journeying Together Getting Stuck In

Welcome to our small space in the big world wide web!

We’re a bunch of ordinary people from Peckham and the nearby areas learning to follow Jesus. The main thing we're doing is figuring out how to love God and our neighbours and what that means to us in the stuff of everyday life.

Upcoming events:

Sun Sep 05 @16:30 - 07:00PM 1st Sunday at St John's
Sun Sep 12 @16:30 - 06:30PM 2nd Sunday: Prayer and discussion
Sun Sep 19 @13:30 - 04:30PM 3rd Sunday: Meal, communion and prayer
Sun Sep 26 @08:00 - 05:00PM No Church
Sun Oct 03 @16:30 - 07:00PM 1st Sunday at St John's

We're about building communities, wherever we live and work.

We want to be a church that not only shares the good news about Jesus but is good news for all those who come into contact with us! We find parties and involvement in community festivals are a good way to do this, creating spaces for celebration that break down the barriers between people.  Eating together tends to happen a lot too.

We want to walk with people through all that life has for them, both good and bad.

Crucially for us its also about getting alongside those who are marginalised or just struggling to get by in life; trying to do something about injustice wherever it appears; being a community that engages in other people's worlds rather than expecting them to come to us; and when they do trying to make sure all can find a place of belonging and are helped in their journey with God.

We're about asking difficult questions but still getting stuck in.

Basically, we want to be the kind of people who ask questions about life even when it's difficult, but confident that as we do, Jesus is right there in the middle of it all. We're learning that when you do this as a community it becomes something quite extra-ordinary and can make a real difference. That's why we're passionate about constantly exploring, questioning, and wrestling with new and creative ways to live out the life of Jesus 24-7.

Have a look around, we would love you to journey with us.
