How we fit into the bigger picture
Investing in relationships with others is very important to the church, and is central within our vision and values. We do not want to be a holy, insular club, we want to be connected bringing Jesus’ life and colour to all those we spend time with.
We also are involved with various community organisations and activities including membership of Southwark Association of Voluntary Organisations and Friends of Brimmington Park. The annual Brimmington Festival has been actively supported by Restore over the last four years through involvement in planning, stewarding, and running a stall at it. A recent one saw our peace tent with space to chill and write dreams & prayers to decorate the tent full of people.
We are members of Southwark for Jesus, Evangelical Alliance and Transform Network, and we hold our First Sundays and various other events in premises belonging to a local Anglican Church with whom we have an excellent relationship. We partner with them on things like three day/24 hour prayer Boiler Rooms plus community arts events. We also partner with a local Ghanaian church who do the food and much more for our annual community Christmas party
The main leader of the church, Fran Beckett, is a charity consultant although up until recently was Chief Executive of a national charity. She chairs the Peckham church leaders group that supports the Christian unemployment project PECAN. She's a Board member of the London Development Agency; recently finished 4 years as Chair of a Cabinet Office Advisory Group; is a regular speaker at Spring Harvest, Greenbelt, and other national Christian events; an author of books on Christian social action, leadership, and related issues.
Other RESTORE people are teachers, senior nurses, lawyers, involved in the arts, or social activists of one sort or another with many holding responsible wider positions of leadership. Some of us don't have lots of qualifications but we all share one thing in common: we want to use what we've got to serve God and help make the world into the sort of place he wants it to be...
